2008-09 Jazz Ensemble
Audition Information

Instructions:  Prepare the following pages of jazz songs/etudes to be played at your jazz ensemble audition.  Of the scales, choose three to perform during your audition.  To audition, simply add your name to the list located on the band office window.  This year, auditions will take place in the band room on Monday, December 8th and Tuesday, December 9th, 2008.

All students will be evaluated on the following concepts: tone, tuning, rhythm, range, tempo and appropriate jazz style.

After all auditions are complete, the 2008-09 Jazz Ensemble roster will be posted in the band room.  Rehearsals will begin Thursday, December 11th, 2008.

Rehearsal Guidelines: All students selected for Jazz Ensemble are expected to attend weekly rehearsals on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:35pm – 4:00pm.  Students unable to consistently attend rehearsals should not audition for Jazz Ensemble.

Concert Dress:  All Jazz Ensemble members will dress in “all black” for all performances.

Performances: All members are required to attend all performances.  Jazz Ensemble combines with the Percussion Ensemble for a joint concert on Tuesday, April 7th, 2009.  Each year 1 or 2 additional performances are scheduled as opportunities arise.  This may include trips to off-campus sites.  These performances vary from year to year.  Schedules for all performances will be posted as soon as performance dates and times are confirmed.
